dime and quarters have 4 or more corner backs, that is why. I havent played a 1-5-5, never knew there was one!!! What playbok is that?
The 3-3-5 is 3 LB and 3 CBs with 2 safeties. I am assuming now since I never knew there was a 1-5-5 that its 5 linebackers? Can someone tell me what play book that is, I would be interested to see that.

that is true! But I think we are reading into this to much. There are certain people that know why this was said.

Rock...as tony said there was a reason this was brought up...some of our owners start from the first play of the game using dime/quarters and never switch from it. If people were mixing it with your standard defenses from the get go...it probably wouldnt even be an issue.

PTR, thats part of my point. If those defenses are allowed in all situations, how would u ever monitor this rule? You make a good point and I, personally, don't know that you can monitor the rule in those type situations. You could make those defenses look just like dime, especially if you crowd the line of scrimmage. And with the fake blitz, you certainly can make things look chaotic. But on the flip side, if you are allowed to play Nickel 3-3-5 or 1-5-5, why cant you play dime? That doesnt make sense to me. So if there was ever an issue within a game, your oppenent could just say "oh i was just running nickel" I'm sure most everyone concerned does understand your frustration in that sense. Things used to be when Madden added new things in the game, whether on offense or defense, that the rules, IMO, were easier to tweak to keep the playing field even. I think the time has long since gone that that can still be done equitably. When Tiburon started adding the arcade-like features on both sides of the ball, it made life miserable for league commishes in trying to keep it level. Sometimes it is just best to leave things alone, not saying this is that situation. But Tiburon does make things hard. But again, im the only one that has a problem with the rule so its a dead issue. Not exactly that you are the only one. I'm sure there are several of your opinion.
I, too, find it kind of disheartening when I see my opponent come out in a 2wr, 2 RB 1 TE set, motions a RB to a LOS position (now we have 4 receivers on the LOS and the most matchable defensive formation suggested for use is the Nickel. There are other situations as well which have been discussed in this topic in depth.
Right now the offense is miles ahead of the defense. If you are offensive minded, this is great. If you are defensive minded, you have to look for other ways to circumvent the defensive handicaps. EA knows offense sells Madden more than defense, so expect more arcadish-type features in next gen. However, EA added "gang tackling" to the PS3 version of '07 so maybe that's a start. I foresee this year as the last year for realistic use of the PS2 for Madden league play to any degree, providing Sony hits the 6 mil March "target." So keep the faith, RD! PTR

All team playbooks have the Nickel 3-3-5 except Pats, Titans, Rams and Vikes. 3 linemen, 3 LBs, 3 CBs......unless as was suggested.....packaging, a lot of packaging, lol! Someone else may can help on the Nickel 1-5-5 playbooks, however, from my info, you are right, it is 1 NT, 5 LBs, 5 CBs......and of course, packaging.
