Well, After playing a couple games tonight on release day. Not impressed with the EA servers already. I anticipated lag and such due to the high traffic, but it took me almost an hour just to get the servers to work and get in. But onto the gameplay. ~At least right now it seems like it plays really fast to me. Not a bad thing. Just takes some getting used to. ~I like the old kicking style making it's way back. I mean you're never going to get a good way to do them realistically so that way is as good as any compared to the move your stick around. ~If a player knows what they are doing they can Vick you to death. Luckily the guy I played couldn't make the 2nd half adjustments from bombing it to Jackson so I played slow and steady and beat him. Speedster receivers will kill you if you play up. ~Running game seemed okay. Probably gonna need more time to work with it. ~Defense wasn't anything special. Didn't get a real good chance to evaluate it due to the guys style. Seemed in that game though like if the DB had a chance to play the ball they did for the most part, but there were a couple of headscratcher lob catches to MR. 5'10" Jackson, but o well. ~Seemed so far like kickoff returns and punt returns are gonna be short unless you get some help. We'll see on that though. May have been just cause it was my first game. So anyway, Not horrible, but not groundbreaking by any means so far. Makes me more interested in playing though.

One online game and you played the Eagles...go figure.
We start our 27 hour drive back to CO (from PA) today...so i wont get to get the game into the PS3 until sometime tomorrow...but cant wait.
What level are the ranked games online this year? Allpro? Im not sure yet what level we should play on but i think we will have a better idea a week or so into the game.

I've played two games on All Pro against the AI and lost both as the Panthers. Averaging 4 ints a game right now. Since I haven't played since like '04 or '05 I guess it should be expected. Also running is hard for me still, but that will come with time as I get used to playing again.
Another thing I'm noticing is that the O-line blocking sort of sucks. I get sacked a lot, and most are inside the pocket within like 2 seconds. Once again it will probably get better once I get used to the playbook and know where to look on plays.
I do like the speed of the game, not sure if that's been modified. I am able to stop people pretty well and once I get my offense up and running I might be all right. Cam Newton is ok if I can get the ball where I want it. I'm not going to start a franchise until the game day roster update, and am looking forward to that a lot.
Who is up for some "work the rust off" games? I'm unfortunately in training from 3pm - 11:30pm M-F for the entire month of Sept, so mornings or weekends work best for me.

I would have to say all madden. I wouldnt judge all madden by playing the computer though. Like last year its night and day playing AM vs a user and AM vs the computer. The game play is faster and once you get used to it feels nice. I like the D way more. Man coverage dbs will undercut routes for ints. And in zone they actually cover the man as he comes into his designated area and follows him out. Been reading that running is harder this year because the blocking is toned down a bit. I havent noticed anything drastic. Speed defiantly isn't the end all this year. I have slow dbs that cover well and do a good job of covering speed guys even on streaks.
The custom playbooks is an issue for those who care about audibles. It looks like they made it that if you want a custom playbook you cant have custom audibles, which i guess would be the catch 22. Plus the custom playbooks are not organised at all meaning some like formations are not grouped together when they should be. I assume this would be a quick patch. If not i might just pick a pb. The other way around the audible thing i have read is to pick a book with audibles you like and edit that book. Looking forward to playing. Anyone want to start a community?

I've only played against the CPU since my power went out a few days ago and I still don't have phone (land line) or internet at home. On AM against the CPU, I'm throwing 3-4 picks a game and not doing much to stop the CPU on defense.
This is the first week I've played NG madden since I just bought a PS3 so I've got a big learning curve ahead of me. I like the custom playbooks but haven't figured out how to do simple things like hot routes, speed burst, and motion receivers with the controller. This isn't your daddy's PS2 anymore...
Looking forward to 2-14 in the league!

Great impressions, guys!!!
Some quick impressions I have from AP after a few hours:
Man and zone AI definitely is better...flats are played better but watch out for "bombs."
Suction blocking still exists but it's not as noticiable.
The torrid suction blocking seems toned down on.
75-80 SPD DT/LBs don't run down 90 SPD HBs and WRs, unless you are on AM, lol. I have seen that but didn't spend too much time on AM.
BIG Concern: Custom playbooks audibles need fixed so you can pick them without all the hassle; I've tried everyway posted and still can't get what I want. Play Action "situation" is not avail. EA needed to develop a better way to create the books. Word is there might be a better way but those sources have yet to divulge how. One can hope, but that hope looks dim unless a patch will surface. I will suffice to say that if I use a custom book, I will just go with what the base book produces and then add other plays from other books I like. And too bad custom books can't be used in online chise games although not a concern in SAPML. Sad, yet, how EA has treated that mode.
The voice-overs are the sheet....lagging behind gameplay. These retards are calling the
play after the play is dead, lol.
Not a big thing for me, but the camera angles and graphics are better, IMO.
For what it's worth: The other league I'm in, is going with AP again this year as the stats last year were more realisitic than AM for us, but whatever mode you say, Aaron. You the man!!
Drive safely to CO!!
PTR
EDIT: SGibbs @ Prima posted yesterday, probably the most complete way of customizing your audibles in custom books:
He used Dallas but it also worked for the Chargers and a few more that he didn't try....other guys did. The system worked for me for offense....didn't try defense yet.

zone defenses are way better than last years edition. run blocking is tits. first time i have even come close to avg 100 yds a game on the ground and that number was around 120 the last i checked. bunch/tight formations are still a bleep to cover. even moreso now that man blitzes are less effective. the hit stick has made a return as far as effectiveness. gameplans as far as playcalling seem to be stategically better. ratings seem to apply alot more this year too.
if any of you want to lab hit me up on psn: BEERnTATERS Cujo, I'll get you back into Madden shape in no time or maybe not. haha

WTF, EA! Patch that sheet!
