SAPML SIM-STYLE LEAGUE RULES
Revised 10.28.2011
Revised 10.28.2011
IMPORTANT CHANGES IN RED
RULE I
(A) Level of Play is All-Madden, 8-minute quarters; 20 sec accelerated clock is on.
(B) All rules will be enforced by the 3-strike rule unless otherwise stated in the rule itself; or if the commissioners deem it best for the league to immediately terminate the offending party.
(C) League Daddy site is SAPML. Check with the Commissioner for password and team authorization.
RULE II
SPORTSMANSHIP: Points scored is not used as a tie-breaking procedure in the SAPML, so running up the score to pad your stats is not showing good sportsmanship toward your opponent! This is a straight league and this is firmly discouraged. Show some respect for your fellow league member.
RULE III
FORUM & ONLINE DECORUM: Forum and online site posts that are considered a detriment to the integrity of the league will be deleted and/or edited, no questions asked. This includes arguments, inciting arguments, personal disparaging remarks, calling out other players, etc. If you have a complaint, e-mail the Commissioner, e-mail the other player or PM or AIM or YIM, but do not post it in the forum or online. If your complaint is important enough to be posted then it should officially be made to the Commissioner. The posting of any images or links thereto of objectionable material will also be removed.
RULE IV
SCHEDULING GAMES: As a member of the league, you have made a commitment of responsibility to make contact with your opponent to schedule and complete games in a timely fashion. This will be strictly enforced. Scheduling games must be done in the forum under that particular week’s games. Contact with your opponent can be made by e-mail or IM or PM, but both must agree and post that agreement at the scheduled game thread in the forum so that the Commissioners know that the game has been scheduled. If a player has to cancel for some reason, and it will happen, that player must post in the forum of that cancellation and notify the opponent by e-mail ASAP. And post something that makes sense instead of “hey, sup” or “hit me up on AIM.” As some ex-players have found in the past, that does not fulfill your responsibility under this rule. CYA.
RULE V
GAME STATS: (A) Posting game stats is MANDATORY. Stats should be recorded within 24 hours after your game. Both players are responsible for seeing that team stats are completely recorded in League Daddy. Each player will be responsible for the posting of individual player’s stats which is also mandatory. A comment section with the Recap Wizard is provided for you to place images and talk about game situations, spectacular plays, etc., so please do so...but not mandatory. It will be viewed to help develop storylines by the league. To post stats on League Daddy, click on schedule/the week of the game/then your team...at that point you can enter the game stats/post a comment about the game/ then go to the player stats for your team and post them as well. Make sure you save the stats as your last step.
IN-GAME RULES
RULE VI
NO HUDDLE: You can do it at any time when down by 14 points or more, but only outside an opponent’s 5-yard line. However, the offense must give the defense time to set so as not to cause an off-sides penalty. Should that still occur, though, the offense must immediately take a 5-yard delay penalty for causing the off-sides penalty. If you throw an incomplete pass or the clock is stopped, then you must call a new play from your playbook. If Madden mistakes your manual catch for a “no huddle,” the offense must take a delay of game (5-yd penalty), then call a play, at which time the defense will, on purpose, jump off-sides, (5-yd penalty), resetting the ball at its original spot. You may also run the no-huddle offense within 2 minutes of the end of the first half. Also, a trailing team may run no-huddle in the last 3-minutes of the game.
RULE VII
AUDIBLING: You cannot audible down on offense, i.e., where it puts a WR at RB or TE. You are allowed only one audible that changes your formation. You must wait for the defense to react and set (no defensive man motion). Audibles are not allowed so as to put a DB or WR any other place other than their own position. Should that happen, that out-of-position player should be motioned or moved to an approved position.
On Defense, you cannot audible down, i.e., Dime into a 4-3 formation or Quarter into a 3-4, UNLESS the offense changes its formation via an audible first or the offense runs no-huddle. Go to the lab and make sure that your audibles don’t abuse this rule. Formation shifts are allowed.
RULE VIII
MOVING DEFENSIVE PLAYERS: You can move only one player, a LB, CB, or Safety manually on defense before the snap and you must remain that player playing that position until the ball is snapped. Down linemen cannot be manually moved under any circumstance. LBs and DBs cannot be manually brought to the line to confuse the offensive AI blocking.
Line-spread/Looping: You can shift the D-line to the right or left, pinch or spread.
RULE IX
SUBSTITUTIONS: ALL PACKAGES CAN BE USED. Unless done by in-game menus. Other substitutions can ONLY be made before the game, between quarters, or during timeouts.
RULE X
ONLINE DISCONNECTIONS: Here is the procedure to follow: If a disconnection occurs and if one player remains online do not finish against the computer. The player remaining online is responsible for getting the stats and game info at the time of disconnection, which you should be able to do. You do this before you end the game. The other player who got disconnected must immediately return to the lobby and wait for the other player to get all the information required and return to the lobby. If you do not return to the lobby and wait for your opponent to take down the stats, the Commissioner may rule you in forfeit of the game outright. The player remaining online will take down what quarter it is and how much time is left, who was in possession, all game stats of both teams and all individual player stats of both teams. After the remaining player online gets the stats, he is to end the game and return to the lobby to meet up with his opponent. In advance, it is advisable to print out the stat form in League Daddy or if you can't print it out, make one that uses the same form. You would want your opponent to do the same for you. After getting the stats, and you both agree, you will resume the game where you left off. Using delay penalties can get the ball close to where it was at disconnection without using up too much time. If the offense was close to scoring an effort should be made to get the ball placed as close as possible to the original spot. Middle of play disconnects should be spotted with both players approval. As for length of game minutes, 12 minutes left, play 4 quarters, each 3 minutes long. Use common courtesy and try to start another game where the last one left off, i.e., same score, minutes left, etc. In the event of any disagreement of how the game will be continued, the commissioner will have the final say of the continuation or completion of the game. IF YOUR DISCONNECT SHOULD RESULT BECAUSE YOU CAUSED THE DISCONNECT PURPOSEFULLY AND DID NOT TRY TO RE-CONNECT WITH YOUR OPPONENT, THEN YOU WILL BE SUBJECT TO IMMEDIATE EXPULSION FROM THE LEAGUE.
RULE XI
MIXING PLAYS: Keep it as real as you can in mixing up plays as the real teams do. It’s understandable that a team with RB problems is going to pass more than run and a team with poor WRs is going to run more, but not 90% of the time. Dont overuse the QB scramble.
This applies as well to defensive plays. This means not running a Dime or Quarters defense, or running bump ‘n’ run or men-in-the-box coverage 90% of the game. If you have a “money-type” play, you should not run it every play or every other play.
Mixing of plays has been changed from a “guideline” to a rule, so referrals of complaints to Commissioners regarding abuse of this rule will be taken seriously.
Be sensible and call your offensive and defensive plays in a sportsmanship sim-style manner.
RULE XII
ONSIDE KICKS: Only allowed in the 4th quarter by a team that is trailing.
RULE XIII
THE FOURTH DOWN RULE: You may go for it on 4th down anywhere on the field when it is 4th and inches. You may go for it when it is 4th down and 2 or less if you are in your opponent's territory. In the third and fourth quarters, if you are behind by multiple touchdowns, you may go for it on fourth down...but dont abuse this rule by going on 4 and 15 in your own territory at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. In the fourth quarter, if you are behind, use your best judgment when going on 4th down.
In overtime, teams can go on 4th down at any time in any situation.
RULE XIV
Scrambling with the QB. You can't consistently scramble straight back 10 yards or more unless its a screen...and don't abuse the AI even on a screen. You cant scramble to the sidelines consistently on pass plays.
RULE XV
GAME GLITCHES/FLAWS: In the SAPML, it is not acceptable for any player to knowingly use a PUBLICIZED/NON-PUBLICIZED game glitz/flaw, whether discussed in THE SAPML forum or not. You will face possible league expulsion. It is your responsibility as a player to be aware of those particular aspects of the game. Should a player become aware of a “game glitch,” it is the responsibility of that player to bring it to the attention of Commissioners and/or staff.
MANUAL” JET PACKING OF A WR OR DB/CLICK ON/CLICK OFF ISSUES/NANOS, ROCKET CATCHING, are not allowed. Of note: Although not as widespread as past maddens clicking on a WR and leading the Defender away from the ball...then clicking off the WR so he makes a speed burst back to the ball is not allowed...nor is any type of abuse that resembles that kind of tactic. IF YOU “THINK” IT MIGHT BE A GLITCH, IT PROBABLY IS, SO CONSIDER IT TO BE ONE AND DON'T DO IT.
THESE RULES MAY BE CHANGED, ADDED TO OR AMENDED BY THE COMMISSIONER AT ANY TIME.
