First and foremost, I'd like to start this off with a disclaimer. I don't want to turn this into a pissing match for one, and before you read anything I've got to say here, understand that I played up until about week 9 or 10 thinking that the d-line spread was still banned from this league anyway.
I don't understand what's so wrong about the d-line spread. Well, actually, I do. There's a bunch of in this league, whenever something is affective it seems like a rule comes out banning it there after. And I can understand a lot of the things, I'm with the rules on most. This is ridicilious though, and this just INVITES people to drop back 15 yards every play. It also invites people on defense to blitz more, and when they blitz more I fear that they'll end up on the short end of the stick and be out of the league. In the NFL, rushes off the edge are what the great defensive ends for the most part, make their living off of. The last great balanced pass rusher at defensive end in this league was/is Michael Strahan. Dwight Freeney, Julius Peppers, Osi Umenyiora, Derrick Burgess, Simeon Rice, etc. Watch any gamefilmof them and look at where they lineup when its an antipated pass. EVEN when it isn't, watch some of the Colts defensive film. I noticed this especially against Pittsburgh, Dwight Freeney ends up 5 yards into the backfield every play, except he comes from the outside in.
The rule was fine the way it is, and by all means, no offense here shanks or glad or any of the league staff, but it seems like you're just taking the easy way out so you dont have to use judgement when fielding complaints about the rule. For one, it makes it easy to say, "ok, this guy spread his line, he's out" rather than "this guy supposedly splits his line too much".
I also feel like you just gave into all the crying, just because a few guys are too stupid to just step up in the pocket, or use the line shift that they specifically put into the game to help out the whiners. And at that, in this years game, the "loop" where you playmaker your lineman to use an outside move on the tackle(whats the big deal, lineman use outside moves all the time in the NFL, maybe if people would open their eyes and say "hey, let me run a dive play, then a blast play, maybe I should slow down their pass rush" or "hey, theyre keeping me in the pocket, I should focus on stepping up when I pass") has been drastically reduced to a rush that's barely any different from the normal one.
I can guarantee you I will find ways to get to the passer and force turnovers just like I did this year, with or without a split line, as I did for almost 3/4's of this season anyway, and I can guarantee you I'll win within the rules. I can also guarantee you they'll be some complaining too. And I bet in the long run I end up on the short end of the stick as well, this league is great, one of the oldest leagues on leaguedaddy, but it seems like if anyone can win on a consistant basis a witchunt for the winners begins and everyone starts pointing the finger and screams cheater, cheeser, etc. etc.
ANYWAYS, just wondered where everyone else stood on this new rule and the d-line shift in general. This year's madden, I hadn't even heard any whining about it until now.
